Have it Your Way

As we approach the 2012 election, we easily get caught up in the politics and fear of what each candidate might do to our country.  We need to all vote—express our values and preferences. But regardless of who sits in the Oval Office, something more important is at stake for our country.

C. S. Lewis said, “There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, “Thy will be done”, and those to whom God says, “All right, then, have it your way.”

“If My people who are called by My name humble themselves, pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.”  2 Chronicles 7:14 HCSB

If ever we needed healing in our land, today looks like the perfect time.

My people

God didn’t say all people, some people or those evil people over there. He spoke directly to those who know Him. Those of us who enjoy intimate relationships with God, the Father – that’s who he addresses.  It starts with me, and all the other “me’s” out there.

Hope

Hope comes through prayer.

Humble themselves, pray, seek My face, and turn from their evil ways

Our land reeks of pride. Me in the middle of everything, even in self-esteem so low that I deem myself too pitiful for God to love me. And pride becomes sin, for I stand at the very core of pride. What is sin other than putting myself above everyone including God?

And pray? When was the last time I got on my knees or fell with my face to the floor honestly looking at my heart? Seeking out and eradicating whatever depravity lives there still, for all of us retain some degree of wickedness. Once we admit that truth and turn from all evil ways, then and only then will God move freely in this country. Then He will bring healing and peace back to a once great nation, now teetering very precariously on a precipice hanging above destruction.

Having it our way in the United States over the last forty or fifty years doesn’t seem to be working very well for us. Perhaps it’s time we change and submit to God, once again saying, “Your will be done.”
